Ref. 4103: Magnificent listed chateau surrounded by a moat for sale.
At the crossroads of Poitou and Anjou, this splendid castle surrounded by its moat is nestled in the peace and quiet of the countryside.
It has kept its authenticity while enjoying modern comfort thanks to the high quality restoration orchestrated by the current owners. It is quite simply an exceptional property.
Close to shops with quick access to a train station and a motorway.
With its purchase in 2003 by the current owners, the castle has had only its fourth owner in 500 years.
The castle stands on a small granite plateau surrounded by a moat, which a drawbridge spans.
The castle consists of a rectangular residential part to which a round tower and a square tower are added on the north side, while on the south side, flanked by an overhanging turret at one end, the wing housing the vaulted staircase with its sloping barrel vault represents a certain taste for the grandiose sought after in the 16th century.
The interior was fitted out in the 18th and 19th centuries. This granite building has perfectly preserved its original layout (late 15th and 16th centuries) despite some additions in the 19th century.
The latest owners have restored it entirely, and this restoration is a masterpiece of respect for history and integration of modernity.
One can see on the facades the interventions that restored its integrity. The double mullioned windows, the few rare coats of arms, the pavements, the new roof, seem to have been cleaned for 500 years.
However, the entrance door leads, via a large renaissance-style staircase built in a square tower after the construction, to a cosy lounge that is warmed by a monumental fireplace.
On all floors, tapestries, woodwork and ceilings have been redone with strict respect for the reversibility of the restorations. The castle's wounds have not been hidden, they have been cared for, leaving the scars to tell its story.
A large number of 15th and 16th century elements have been preserved, which does not detract from the atmosphere and charm of the place.
In the words of the rapporteur to the inscription commission, the castle gives the impression of a small fairy-tale castle.
On the ground floor, an entrance hall with the splendid staircase.
A cloakroom.
A large living room with a monumental fireplace.
The fitted and equipped kitchen.
Great plus: a bedroom, bathroom and toilet on the ground floor.
A majestic corridor leading to two lounges, each with beautiful fireplaces, wood panelling and parquet flooring.
The first floor includes :
A room for conversion.
A very large bedroom with parquet floor and fireplace, its private bathroom.
WC.
Three other bedrooms each with a bathroom/shower room and WC.
The second floor comprises the attics with a very beautiful roof structure and offering numerous possibilities for conversion. The existing openings offer a lot of light.
Service staircase from the ground floor to the attic.
Chapel with ribbed vaults and slate roof situated next to the castle inside the moat.
A vast outbuilding that can house animals, cars or other items a little way from the castle completes the whole.
The estate with an area of 47,57 acres is composed of a forest as well as meadows with a small pond for the animals offering beautiful perspectives to the whole.
The moat is fed by a spring and is full of fish.
